Romito Secures Spot on NEWBA Weekly First Team

NEWBA RELEASE

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Lauren Romito of the Suffolk women's basketball team earned a spot on the New England Women's Basketball Association's (NEWBA) First-Team following her double-double performance in the 65-57 win over Eastern Nazarene.

Romito contributed a 16-point, 11-rebound effort to the victory over the Lions that helped Suffolk start the year 2-0 for the first time since 2015-16. The graduate student shot 5-for-7 from the floor and 6-for-8 from the line. The forward added three blocks and two helpers to his stat line as well. In the triumph, she produced career-highs in points, field goals made, free throws made and rebounds.

The Hauppauge, New York native is the second student athlete recognized by the NEWBA this season following Amanda DeAngelis spot on the second team Nov. 15, 2023. Romito is the first Ram to pick up a first team distinction since DeAngelis garnered the award Jan. 11, 2023.

The weekly accolade is Romito's second of her Suffolk career as she garnered CCC Player of the Week Nov. 20 for her effort at Eastern Nazarene.

Romito and the Rams are on pause for the Thanksgiving holiday and return to action Monday, Nov. 27 with a match at Salem State at 7 p.m.
