BOSTON – The Suffolk women's basketball team begins its quest for GNAC glory tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 25 when the fourth-seeded Rams entertain fifth-seeded Albertus Magnus in the conference quarterfinals. Tip-off at the Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court is set for 7 p.m.

RAMS IN GNAC TOURNAMENT
Suffolk, who has never missed a league tournament since the GNAC's inaugural season in 1995-96, makes its 25th consecutive trip Tuesday night. 

The Rams are the field's fourth seed for the second straight season and seventh time overall. The blue-and-gold has advanced to eth semifinal as the fourth seed four times, including last season, but has never reached the championship contest. Suffolk is 4-6 in the league's tournament as the fourth seed. 

In 24 appearances, Suffolk has moved on to the semis 11 times and competed in the championship five times.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's basketball put an exclamation point on its regular-season with an 88-45 convincing win over Rivier Saturday afternoon at Muldoon Gymnasium.

RAMS REVIEW
Suffolk finished the 2019-20 regular-season 17-8 overall and 8-3 in GNAC contests. 

The Rams 65.1 ppg offense has had a usual trio provide double figures. Jenni-Rose DiCecco's 15.1 ppg leads the way with the floor general dishing out 4.8 apg as well. Gabriella DeComo is second on the squad with 10.5 ppg with Alexis Hackett's 10.1 ppg rounding out the threesome. 

Hackett's 9.3 rpg anchors Suffolk's 40.7 rpg. Emily Welling's 5.0 rpg effort adds depth on the glass with DiCecco grabbing 4.5 rpg.

FALCONS FACTS
Albertus Magnus wrapped up the regular-season with three straight wins, including a 69-50 win at Anna Maria Saturday, to finish the regular-season 18-7 overall. 

Shyla Osmond and Rah-Rah Thompson provide a one-two punch on both ends of the hardwood. Osmond's 22.9 ppg powers the Falcon's 72.6 ppg offense, while Thompson supplies a double-double effort of 16.6 ppg and 15.2 rpg. Osmond pitches in 7.5 rpg as well.

SUFFOLK VS. ALBERTUS MAGNUS IN THE GNAC TOURNAMENT

  • Suffolk and Albertus Magnus will face one another in the GNAC postseason for the fifth time, first since the 2010 quarterfinals.
  • The Falcons defeated the Rams in that 2010 matchup, 82-81.
  • Overall, Suffolk is 3-1 against Albertus Magus in the conference tournament.

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk women's basketball held off an Albertus Magnus comeback, used clock management, and composure to secure it second straight GNAC win, a 65-59 triumph against the Falcons Jan. 16 at Emmanuel's Andy Yosinoff Court.
