Hipwell Honored as GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week, Again

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball's Jordan Hipwell picked up her second GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week honor after averaging 16.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg in a 2-1 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Hipwell opened the weekly action with a 10-point, six-rebound effort in a 61-45 victory over Simmons. Her true heroic performance came in a come-from-behind 70-67 win at Johnson & Wales. At the Wildcat Center, the rookie poured in a career-high 23 points on a 9-for-16 showing from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 performance at the line to anchor the Rams comeback. To go along with her offensive output, Hipwell notched eight caroms, two assists and two steals.

The Ballston Spa, New York, native wrapped up the week with 15 points, five rebounds, three dimes and two steals in an 82-79 heartbreaking setback to GNAC powerhouse Saint Joseph's (Maine) Saturday.

Hipwell's second honor is added to a collection of weekly hardware taken home by the Rams this season as her classmate Jenni-Rose DiCecco has been named the best rookie over a seven day stretch by the conference five times and once by the NEWBA. Senior co-captain Georgia Bourikas, meanwhile, collected the top honor of USBWA National Player of the Week Dec. 10. Overall, the Rams have 11 weekly awards to their credit this season.

Suffolk and Hipwell return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 30 as they make the short trip across town to battle Emmanuel at 7 p.m.
