Women’s Basketball Wins Seventh in a Row, Upends Pine Manor, 99-47

BOSTON – Every Suffolk women's basketball player on roster contributed to the Rams' seventh consecutive win, a 99-47 victory over Pine Manor, Saturday afternoon inside Regan Gymnasium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A tight contest was present during the opening as the lead exchanged once and the score tied twice with the last time coming on a pull-up Jenni-Rose DiCecco three just 3:51 into the first quarter. The Rams converted Alexis Hackett's block into two points with Alexandra Nagri putting away a lay-up on the fast-break to give Suffolk a lead, 10-8, it would not relinquish.   

The Gators called a timeout to slow down Suffolk, but the hosts had other things in mind as Jordan Hipwell kept the Rams' scoring stretch up. Suffolk went on to outscore Pine Manor, 10-4 over the final 4:47 in the first frame to hold a 22-12 advantage after the first 10 minutes. 

It was all blue-and-gold over the second stanza with Suffolk limiting the Gators to just two points while putting away 13 itself over to gain a 35-14 cushion with 3:07 to play before halftime. Out of Pine Manors' third timeout of the afternoon the visitors began to find their grove. It was too little too late for the visitors however as the Rams had an answer for every Gators bucket to run into the locker rooms up 43-19. 

Pine Manor shot out of the locker room and put on its best offensive output in third with 15 points, but it was no match for Suffolk, who racked up 24 to take a 67-34 advantage into the final frame. 

The Rams reserves maintained Suffolk's cushion and coasted to a 99-47 victory. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• DiCecco paced a Suffolk offense that saw all 12 Rams recorded at least one hoop. The freshman floor general registered 19 points on a 6-for-13 effort from the floor and a 4-for-8 performance from long range. She also dished out nine dimes and pulled down seven boards.
• Classmate Gabriella DeComo racked up 16 points in just 15 minutes off the bench, shooting 6-for-11 from the field.
• Hackett and Hipwell both contributed double-double efforts. Hipwell knocked down 12 points and took down 10 caroms, while Hackett recorded 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
• Nagri put together a 13-point performance with co-captain Georgia Bourikas playing a well-rounded game with seven points, eight boards and six assists.
• As a team, Suffolk shot 47.4 percent (37-78) from the floor, 38.1 percent (8-21) from the three-point arc and 77.3 percent (17-22) at the charity stripe.
• The Rams held a convincing advantage on the glass, 63-41, and handed out 29 assists.
• Suffolk received 38 points from its reserves with 44 coming in the paint and 16 on the fast-break. 

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk opened the second half its schedule versus Pine Manor for the second straight season.
• The Rams have won 18 straight contests against Pine Manor to improve to 19-9 all-time versus the Gators.
• Suffolk has strung together seven consecutive victories marking the longest win streak since the blue-and-gold put eight together to open second semester play in 2017.
• As a team, the Rams put together their highest offensive output since dropping 104 points in a 104-99 victory over Albertus Magnus Feb. 13, 2016.
• Suffolk's 63 rebounds mark the most boards by the blue-and-gold since the Rams grabbed 80 in an 84-68 victory over Pine Manor Jan. 7, 2016.
• The Rams' 29 handouts mark the most in Suffolk's game-by-game history, which dates through the 2010-11 season.
• DiCecco tallied double digit points for the ninth time in her career and fifth consecutive contest. The point guard matched her career-high in assists with nine.
• Bourikas matched a career-best six handouts.
• Rachel LaSaracina made her collegiate debut with four points and a pair of dimes.
• DeComo (16 points), Mya Blazejowski (six points, four rebounds, two assists) and Stephanie Langlais (four points, four rebounds, two assists) all had career-days.
• Hackett notched her seventh double-double of the season with the sophomore grabbing double-digit boards for the ninth time this season and fifth straight game.
• Hipwell produced her second collegiate double-double with her fourth contest with double digit points and second with double figure rebounds.
• Nagri scored a season-high 13 points.
• Ed Leyden used the starting line-up of DiCecco, Bourikas, Nagri, Hackett and Hipwell for the ninth straight game with that combination improving to 8-1.
