Women's Basketball Entertains Pine Manor Saturday

BOSTON – Off to its best start in program history, the Suffolk women's basketball team looks to keep its winning ways intact as it opens second semester play Saturday, Jan. 6 inside Regan Gymnasium versus Pine Manor at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's basketball extended its win streak to six straight with a 74-67 decision over Emerson Tuesday night inside Regan Gymnasium. With the win, the Rams improve to 8-2 on the season, marking the best start in program history.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk holds an 8-2 overall record and rides a six-game win streak into Saturday thanks to a 74-67 victory over Emerson Dec. 12 that wrapped up first semester play. 

The Rams' 70.0 ppg offense  Georgia Bourikas and Jenni-Rose DiCecco 16.1 ppg and 15.7 ppg, respectively. Alexis Hackett (9.7) and Jordan Hipwell (7.9) have also been consistent contributors offensively. 

Hackett has been a force on the glass with the sophomore pulling down a team-best 11.5 rpg including 8.3 boards on the defensive end per contest to pace Suffolk's 42.1 rpg effort. Bourikas chips in 5.9 rpg with DiCecco (5.5 rpg) and Hipwell (5.3 rpg) also adding to the effort.

GET TO KNOW THE GATORS
Pine Manor dropped a down-to-the-wire tight 79-71 battle to Newbury Wednesday to 4-7 on the season. 

A quartet of Gators produce double figures in points led by Erica Jones' 18.2 ppg performance. The senior guard is joined in double digits with classmate Shaquanda Middleton, who provides 13.0 ppg, with Taylor Ingram Martin and Kayleigh Merrell adding 11.0 ppg and 10.2 ppg, respectively. 

Merrell and Middleton led the way on the boards with 7.5 rpg and 7.0 rpg, respectively.

THE SERIES
The Suffolk, Pine Manor series is one of the oldest in the record books with the foes first meeting dating back to the 1983-84 season. The Gators commanded the earlier portion of the meetings with all nine of their wins coming over the first 10 games. The Rams' first win over Pine Manor went down in the books in 1992-93 to break up the Gators' win streak against the blue-and-gold. As of late, Suffolk has commanded the series winning 18 in a row including a 77-62 triumph over Pine Manor last season.

EYES ON THE GAME

BEST YET
Suffolk sealed the best start in the program's 35-year history at 8-2 with its 74-67 win over Emerson Dec. 12. 

STREAKING
The Rams have rattled of six consecutive wins. The win streak marks the longest for the blue-and-gold since combining eight wins to open second semester a year ago in 2017.

RECORD WATCH
Georgia Bourikas looks to stamp her name in the Rams' record book this season. The senior is just 118 points shy of the coveted 1,000-point milestone. The guard from Hull, Massachusetts, also looks to move her current fourth-place standing on the all-time treys made list with 126 up, while she also has the chance to seal up spots on the all-time assists (173) and blocks (29) list.

WEEKLY RECOGNITION
For the fourth time this season, Jenni-Rose DiCecco was recognized by the conference as the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the week. She has now taken home 66.7 percent (4-6) of the league's six rookie of the week honors this season.

Suffolk hits the road and returns to GNAC play at Anna Maria Thursday, Jan. 11. The Rams and AMCATS are set for a 5 p.m. clash.
