NEWBA Recognizes Hackett as Rookie of the Week, Again

BOSTON – After collecting her fifth GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week nod this season, Suffolk women's basketball's Alexis Hackett earned another recognition as the NEWBA named her Rookie of the Week, the association announced Monday afternoon. The accolades come after a 3-0 week for the Rams, which saw Hackett average 13.7 ppg and 8.3 rpg.

In the opener at Anna Maria, Hackett led the charge in a Suffolk fourth quarter comeback. The 5-foot-11 forward poured in a career-best 18 points, including 12 in the final frame to lift the Rams to  a 66-59 victory. She shot 3-for-9 from the field for the night and turned in a perfect 10-for-10 showing at the charity stripe including six in the final two minutes of play. Hackett added one handout, one rebound and one steal to her career night. 

When the Rams returned to Regan for the first time in 2017, Hackett put up her first collegiate double-double in the 71-53 victory over Albertus Magnus. Hackett poured in 13 points and grabbed 14 boards, including13 on the defensive end. She added three assists, one steal and one block in a reserve effort.

To close out the week, Hackett and Suffolk stormed past Mount Ida, 81-50, to extend its win streak to five. In 16 minutes on the hardwood, the Charlton, Massachusetts, native contributed 10 points on a 40 percent connection rate (4-10) from the field and collected six rebounds. 

Overall, Hackett has seven weekly honors in her rookie campaign with five GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week nods and two NEWBA Rookie of the Week accolades on her resume.

Hackett and the Rams are just two hours away from their MLK Day tip-off in North Country at Norwich. Game time is set to begin at 7 p.m.
