Awards Roll in for Hackett, Named NEWBA Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – After collecting the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week accolade, Suffolk women's basketball's Alexis Hackett added more hardware to her growing collection as the freshman was named New England Women's Basketball Association Rookie of the Week, the association announced Monday afternoon.

The accolade comes on the heels of a 2-0 week for the Rams, which featured 13.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg and 4.0 apg from the freshman swing player.

The week got started with an 11-point, eight-rebound, five-assist, two-steal effort that helped Suffolk sneak past Johnson & Wales, 61-60. Hackett matched career-highs in points (11) and assists (5) in the victory and set a new career-best in takeaways (2).

Hackett capped off the week in the 79-58 triumph over Curry with a new personal-best in points with a team-high 16 thanks to a 5-for-6 showing from the floor and a 3-for-4 effort from behind the arc. She added five boards, four steals and three assists to her performance.

The award is Hackett's third weekly accolade of her career as she collected two GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week honors. Hackett is the second Ram to be recognized by the NEWBA this season as Georgia Bourikas was named to the Weekly Honor Roll Nov. 21.

Hackett and the Rams return to action Tuesday, Dec. 13 when Suffolk caps off its 2016 schedule at Clark. Tip-off is set to begin at 7 p.m.
