Campellone Picks Up ECAC DIII New England All-Star Selection

ECAC RELEASE

DANBURY, Conn. – Chelsea Campellone of the Suffolk women's basketball team was one of 11 Division III student-athletes recognized by the ECAC this afternoon as the senior forward was selected to the All-ECAC second team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

Campellone is one of two student-athletes from the GNAC to receive the honor.

The award adds to Campellone's growing pile, which includes All-GNAC Second Team and HeroSports HERO of the Week. The 5-foot-8 Fall River, Massachusetts product put together a standout senior season as Suffolk's offensive and defensive staple, leading the Rams in points 10 times off a team-best and the eighth highest points per game total in the league at 14.9. Her points per contest average lands just outside Suffolk's single-season top-10, while her single-season point total of 403 points ranks 10th all-time for the Rams. Campellone's scoring threat did not just come from off field goals, however, as she capitalized on her 173 trips to the charity stripe, netting 117. Her makes and attempts not only rank among the top of the GNAC, but land sixth and fifth in the blue-and-gold's record book, respectively.

Campellone scored in double figures in 20 of Suffolk's 28 games, with six 20-plus point showings, two 30-plus point performances and a historic 43-point game against Lasell January 23. The 43 points tie the second-most in Suffolk's 40-year women's basketball history, two shy of the Rams' all-time record. Her offensive output versus the Lasers was the highest point total Ed Leyden's tenure as the Rams' head coach, which spans 22 seasons, and is the highest point total inside Regan Gymnasium for a female student-athlete. At the time the total was the third highest point total by a single player in all of NCAA DIII, but now lands sixth.

Her team high numbers also poured in on the defensive end of the hardwood as she collected 10.0 rebounds per outing, a number good for a tie for third in the conference. She paced the Rams on the glass 16 times this season, grabbing double-figure rebounds in 14 appearances to total 13 double-double efforts. Overall, Campellone's rebound total this season (271) is fifth all-time in Suffolk's single-season history with her game average ranking ninth. When the caroms are broken down offensively and defensively, she pulled down the most offensive boards by a Ram in a single season (107) and the third most on the defensive end (164). Her 4.1 offensive boards per game also sits first on the list, while her 6.2 defensive rebounds per game are good for second.

The three-time GNAC Player of the Week and two-time ECAC DIII New England Player of the Week helped Suffolk post a variety of milestones this season including the program's first 100-point game in a dramatic 104-99 overtime victory over Albertus Magnus February 13. Campellone also helped the Rams to their 21st straight GNAC Tournament appearance and their eighth ECAC Championship appearance.
