Campellone Named to All-GNAC Second Team After A Stellar Senior Season

BOSTON – Chelsea Campellone of the Suffolk women's basketball team put together a highlight senior season capped off by GNAC distinction as the forward was named to the All-GNAC second team, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Campellone was Suffolk's offensive and defensive staple, as she led the Rams in points nine times off a team-best and the eighth highest points per game total in the league at 14.7. Her points per contest average lands just outside Suffolk's single-season top-10, while her single-season point total of 378 points ranks 10th all-time for the Rams.  Campellone's scoring threat did not just come from the field as she capitalized on her 167 trips to the free throw line, netting 114. Her makes and attempts not only rank among the top of the GNAC, but land sixth and fifth in the blue-and-gold's record book, respectively.

Campellone scored in double figures in 19 of Suffolk's 26 games, with five 20-plus point showings, two 30-plus point performances and a historic 43-point game against Lasell January 23. The 43 points tie the second-most in Suffolk's 40-year women's basketball history, two shy of the Rams' all-time record. Her offensive output versus the Lasers was the highest point total in the Ed Leyden era, which spans 22 seasons and the highest point total inside Regan Gymnasium.  For her effort, which was then the third highest point total by a single player in all of NCAA Division III, but now lands sixth, she was named HeroSports HERO of the Week.

The Fall River, Massachusetts product also produced team-high numbers on the board with 10.1 rebounds per outing, a number good for fourth in the conference. She paced the Rams on the glass 15 times this season, grabbing double-figure rebounds in 14 appearances to total 13 double-double efforts. Overall, Campellone's rebound total this season (258) is fifth all-time in Suffolk's single-season history with her game average ranking ninth. When the caroms are broken down offensively and defensively, she pulled down the most offensive boards by a Ram in a single season (103) and the third most on the defensive end (155). Her 4.1 offensive boards per game also sit first on the list, while her 6.2 defensive rebounds per game are good for second.

The three-time GNAC Player of the Week and two-time ECAC DIII New England Player of the Week helped Suffolk post a variety of milestones this season including the program's first 100-point game in a dramatic 104-99 overtime victory over Albertus Magnus February 13.
