Campellone Picks Up Corvias ECAC DIII Player of the Week

BOSTON – For her historic performance last week, Chelsea Campellone was named Corvias ECAC Division III Women's Basketball New England Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.

Following a six-point, four-rebound performance in 13 minutes at Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monday afternoon, the forward put in 43 points in just 33 minutes against Lasell on Saturday, the second-most points in a single-game in Suffolk's 40-year women's basketball history. Campellone used a 16-of-22 performance from the floor and went 11-of-18 at the line to account for more than half of the Rams' 85 points in the 85-63 victory over the Lasers.

The 5-foot-7 forward was two points shy of Suffolk's record of 45, set by Ellen Crotty (Pistorino) in 1987. Campellone is the first player in blue-and-gold to surpass 40-plus points during Ed Leyden's tenure, which spans 22 seasons, and is the first Ram to eclipse the mark inside Regan Gymnasium. The 43-point performance currently ranks as the third highest point total by a student-athlete across all of Division III women's basketball this season, as of January 26. She is also the first player in the GNAC to surpass 40 points since 2013-14.

Campellone finished the week with 49 points in 46 minutes action in a 1-1 week for Suffolk. She put together a 67.9 connection rate (19-28) from the field and shot 61.1 percent (11-18) on freebies, averaging 23.0 ppg and 8.5 rpg.

The Rams and Campellone have their sights set on Thursday night's game as Suffolk hosts Anna Maria at Regan Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
