Campellone’s 43-Point Game Sits Second All-Time in Suffolk History

BOSTON – After further review and research, Chelsea Campellone's 43-point performance Saturday afternoon against Lasell sits second all-time by an individual in a Rams' uniform in the 40-year women's basketball history.

Campellone was two points shy of Suffolk's record of 45, which was achieved by Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Famer Ellen Crotty (Pistorino). Crotty, who had a career of firsts in blue-and-gold, poured in 45 points February 4, 1987 in a 79-74 win over Emerson at the Jackson Mann School.

The Rams' 85-63 victory over the Lasers Saturday was the Campellone show. After a 20-point first-half, she went on to score five points in the first minute of the third quarter alone and tallied 13 over the final 10 minutes to put in 43 on the afternoon, tying Crotty for second all-time by a Ram in a single game. She went 16-of-22 from the floor and shot 11-of-18 at the line to score more than half of Suffolk's 85 points. Her offense was not the only highlight, as she pulled down 13 rebounds to notch her seventh double-double of the season.

The 5-foot-7 forward, who calls Fall River, Massachusetts home, was the first student-athlete to surpass 40 points in the Ed Leyden era, which spans 22 seasons, and eclipse the mark inside the friendly confines of Regan Gymnasium. The 43-point achievement currently ranks as the third highest point total by an individual across all of Division III women's basketball this season as of January 26. She is also the first player in the GNAC to surpass 40 points in two seasons.

Campellone is having a standout senior season posting career-best numbers in field goal percentage (42.5), points per game (14.8) and rebounds (10.0). She currently leads the team and sits eighth in the GNAC with 14.8 ppg, while her team-best 10.0 rpg are good for third.

The senior's thrilling showing helped Suffolk end a three-game skid to improve to 10-7 overall and 2-2 against GNAC opponents this season. Campellone and the Rams return to action Thursday, Jan. 29 against Anna Maria at 7 p.m.
