STANDISH, Maine – Taking on its second conference opponent in as many days, the Suffolk women's basketball team was bested by Saint Joseph's College, 68-50, Monday afternoon at Harold Alfond Center.
The Rams (9-7, 1-2 GNAC) used its backcourt for its top offense as Alexandra Nagri led the way with 14 points and Kelsey Schiebel and Georgia Bourikas added nine and seven, respectively.
Saint Joseph's improved to 12-3 and 3-0 against GNAC opponents with the win. Morgan Cahill scored a team-high 13 points as the Monks finished the day shooting 39.1 percent (25-64) from the field and controlled the glass, 41-35.
Saint Joseph's defensive pressure limited Suffolk's offensive opportunities for the majority of the first half, to hold a 35-27, halftime lead. Despite the low opportunities, the Rams took advantage of their changes as they shot 37.5 percent from the floor (9-24) paced by a trio of guards; Nagri, Schiebel and Alessandra Quadri. The threesome combined for 19 of Suffolk's 27. Nagri led the way with 12 with Quadri put together a 2-of-2 performance over the first 20 minutes.
The Monks did not let up in the second half and led by as many as 27, with 6:41 on the clock in the final frame. Aspen Andrew put in six unanswered points and the Rams scored nine of the final 15, but the hole was too large to overcome.
Suffolk returns to action Saturday, Jan. 23 when the Rams host Lasell at 1 p.m.
