Connecticut College Upends Women’s Basketball, 75-57

BOSTON – Three different Rams scored in double figures, but it would not be enough as the Suffolk women's basketball team was edged by Connecticut College, 75-57, Sunday afternoon at Regan Gymnasium.

Chelsea Campellone registered a team-high 15 points. The senior forward was 9-of-11 from the line and pulled down eight rebounds in 21 minutes of action. Sophomore Caitlyn Caramello totaled 12 points with five boards and one hand as junior Georgia Bourikas added 10 points off a perfect 6-of-6 showing at the stripe and added seven caroms.

Suffolk (3-2) shot just 29.2 percent (14-48) on the afternoon and was 2-of-11 from 3-point range.

Connecticut College, however, connected on 31.2 percent (27-84) of its attempts, held a 32-16 advantage in points in the paints, turned 29 Rams' turnovers into 31 points and 14 seconds chances into 31 points to remain undefeated (4-0). The Camels were led by a 15-point, 14-round double-double from Payton Ouimette and 15 points from freshman reserve guard Carolina Pangallo.

Suffolk played victim to poor shooting over the first 10 minutes as Connecticut thrived on all cylinders to hold a hefty 25-7 lead after the first frame. The Rams shooting from the field still lacked over the second stanza, but what kept the home team in striking distance was its 88.2 connection rate from the charity stripe. Suffolk visited the line 17 times in the second quarter and pulled within 11 on a good set from Alessandra Quadri. The Rams went cold only scoring two more points over the final two minutes. The Camels, meanwhile, charged forward putting in 12 points to hold a 46-25 advantage into the half.

Campellone's seven points paced Suffolk over the first 20 minutes as Suffolk struggled shooting just 20.8 (5-24) and did not connect on a single chance from deep (0-4). Connecticut went 38.1 percent from the field (16-42) and 46.7 percent (7-15) from long range to hold the edge.

Out of the locker rooms Suffolk went on a 10-3 stretch to cut Connecticut's lead to 16-, 51-35, but the Camels went on to outscore the hosts, 16-5, for the remainder of the third period to hold a 67-40 lead. The Rams were unable to make up any more ground in the fourth and Connecticut walked away with the 75-57 victory.

Suffolk puts a cap on its three-game homestand Thursday, Dec. 3 as the Rams welcome Fitchburg State to Regan Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
