Women’s Basketball Opens Home Slate Saturday vs. Colby Sawyer

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Regan Gymnasium Saturday to open its home slate against Colby Sawyer. The Rams and Chargers tip-off at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk women's basketball team suffered its first setback of the season Thursday night with a 51-41 loss to Regis at Higgins Court. 

For the second-time this season and 16th time in her career Kelsey Schiebel scored in double digits as the junior netted a 14 points. The 5-foot-2 floor general was a threat from deep, shooting 4-of-8 from long range. Schiebel added seven rebounds and four assists. Chelsea Campellone led the defensive charge, grabbing nine rebounds, as Alexandra Nagri chipped in four steals, four points, three assists and two rebounds.  

Suffolk (2-1) totaled eight steals compared to Regis' (2-1) five, but the Pride held a slight rebounding advantage over the Rams, 47-41, and it showed in its second-chance points, 11-6. After a sluggish 17.6 (6-34) percentage from the field in the first half, the Rams connected on 10-of-27 attempts in the second to finish the night with a 26.2 (16-61) connection rate. Regis, meanwhile, shot 32.8 percent and had 20 points in the paint to help put it over the edge.

RUN DOWN ON THE RAMS

•  Suffolk looks to pick up its third win of the season after dropping a 51-41 battle at Regis Thursday night. 
•  Alessandra Quadri leads the Rams' offensive attack as the senior averages 9.7 ppg. Rookie Marissa Gudauskas and junior Kelsey Schiebel provide 9.3 ppg and 9.0 ppg, respectively. 
• Sophomore Alexandra Nagri has been Suffolk's main distributor this season as she has dished out 4.0 apg. The sophomore has chipped in 7.3 ppg, 4.3 spy and 2.0 rpg, 
• Sophomore Caitlyn Caramello (7.7 rpg) and senior Chelsea Campellone (7.3 rpg) lead the Rams defensively.  

CATCH UP ON THE CHARGERS

• Colby Sawyer has had nearly a week to prepare for Suffolk after posting a convincing 71-40 victory over Fitchburg State in its season opener Nov. 15. 
• Lexi Iannone and Amanda Calvo each recorded 14 points to lift the Chargers to victory. Iannone shot 429 percent from the floor, while Calvo put together a 54.5 shooting percentage. 
• Defensively, the Chargers are led by Kristin Ellis (9.0 rpg) and Marquis MacGlashing (8.0 rpg). 
• Colby Sawyer has been under the guidance of George Martin for the past 21 seasons. Under his guidance, the Chargers have competed in the NCAA Tournament or ECAC Tournament in 14 of the last 19 seasons. 

THE SERIES
Suffolk trails the all-time series with Colby Sawyer, 7-12. Last season, the Rams fell to the Chargers, 55-48. The blue-and-gold last defeated Colby Sawyer November 23, 2013, 63-45. 

ALL-TOURNEY
After capturing the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament Championship, Suffolk was well-represented on the all-tournament team. Senior Alessandra Quadri and junior Georgia Bourikas earned a spot on the team, while senior Cailtyn Caramello was named the tournament's MVP. 

ROOKIE RECOGNITION
Marissa Gudauskas was named the GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week after averaging 12.0 points in just 18.5 minutes per game to help the Rams to a 2-0 start and capture the Emerson Tip-Off Championship.

HARDWOOD CLASSICS
During the off-season, Suffolk Athletics began construction on a brand new gymnasium floor look inside Regan Gymnasium thanks to the generosity of two Suffolk Athletics Hall of Famers Michael S. Smith and Larry E. Smith. Officially completed in August, Suffolk women's basketball will have its first crack on the new hardwood Saturday, Nov. 21 versus Colby Sawyer at 1 p.m.  

WHAT'S NEXT?
The Rams take one-week off to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday and return to action Sunday, Nov. 29 when Suffolk entertains Connecticut College in a 1 p.m. contest.
