Women's Basketball Open New Season With Split in Wheaton Tournament

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team earned a split to start the 2014-15 season as they played in the Wheaton College Tip-Off Tournament held in Norton, MA over the weekend.

Suffolk defeated Yeshiva College by a 96-49 on Saturday evening to open up the new campaign before a 77-59 setback to the host Lyons on Sunday.

Saturday evening saw the offense firing on all cylinders as 11 players factored on the scoring sheet in the contest. Senior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) led the way as she led all scorers with 19 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the field.  Junior Alessandra Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with 17 points while freshman Caitlyn Caramello (Revere, Mass.) provided 14 points off the bench.

Suffolk took Saturday's contest as they shot at a 42.9-percent clip from the field while they outrebounded Yeshive by a 64-40 margin.

Sophomore Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) netted 14 points on Sunday to earn All-Tournament honors for Suffolk. Schiebel finished the weekend shooting 7-for-12 from three-point land for a two game average of 12 points.

Senior Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) averaged 10 rebounds per game on the weekend as she finished with 13 and seven totals in the two games.

Suffolk will be back in action on Wednesday evening in their home opener as they host Regis College at the Regan Gymnasium with a 7:00pm tip-off scheduled.
