Women's Basketball Take 56-53 Victory At Middlebury

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team won their third straight game with a 56-53 victory at Middlebury College on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) finished the game with a team-high 18 points, while junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) scored 12 of her game's 16 points in the second half as the Rams improve to a 13-8 overall mark on the season.

Suffolk closed out the first half with an 8-0 run over the final six and a half minutes to take a 22-16 lead heading into halftime. Middlebury would open the second half with a 7-0 run to take a 23-22 lead three and a half minutes into the second period.

Sophomore Chelsea Campellone (Fall River, Mass.) would score five consecutive points followed by back to back layups by Quadri as Suffolk regained a 35-31 lead halfway through the second period.

Senior Scarlett Kirk (San Francisco, Calif.) would answer with a jumper before junior Alexis Coolidge (Jay, N.Y.) put the Panthers up 37-35 when she connected on a pair of free-throws at the 7:32 mark.

Freshman Georgia Bourikas (Hull, Mass.) connected on a three-pointer eleven seconds later to give the Rams the lead back as they would not let go of it for the remainder of the contest. Quadri followed her up with one of her game's two three pointers to cushion the Suffolk edge back up to five points.

Ruys would score eight points for Suffolk over the final two minutes on a pair of jumpers and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line to seal the Rams' victory.

Senior Sarah Marcus (Williamsville, N.Y.) finished the game with 18 points for the Panthers, while Kirk added 12 points. Middlebury drops to a 7-15 overall mark on the year with Tuesday's loss.

Campellone added 10 points for Suffolk along with six rebounds off the bench.

Sophomore Katie Murray (Holden, Mass.) finished the game with a team-high eight rebounds.

Suffolk will be back in action on Thursday evening as they host Mass. College of Liberal Arts as part of a doubleheader header. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
