Rams Fall to Saints 76-63

The Suffolk Women's Basketball team hosted the Emmanual College Saints in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon in Regan Gymnasium. The Rams fell to the Saints 76-63.

The Saints were the first to get on the board with a jumper from junior Vanessa Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.). The Rams soon answered with a jumper from junior Ilianna Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.).  The Rams and Saints would go back and forth until freshman Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, Mass.) would hit a three- point shot to put the Rams in the lead. Suffolk would hold their lead until the middle of the first half until freshman Olivia Marks (Canterbury, Mass.) would hit a three pointer to put the Saints on top 16-15 with 10:43 on the clock.

The lead would change five more times throughout the first half until senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) would hit a jump shot to put the Rams over the Saints going into halftime 29-28.

Emmanuel would come out strong in the second half and immediately put points on the board. The Rams would tie the game 31-31 when freshman Georgia Bourikas (Hull,Mass.) netted her two free throws. The Saints would pull ahead and would not relinquish the lead. Despite the Rams' best efforts they were not able to close the gap.

Suffolk had four players that would hit in the double digits. Schiebel would lead the way with a team high 16 points on the afternoon. Ruys would net 14 points for the Rams. Quadri would pitch in with 12 points and junior Torri Brillaud (North Andover, Mass.) would round it out with 10 points and a team high 7 rebounds.

Sarah Higgins would show a strong effort for the Saints with a game high 18 points.

WIth this loss Suffolk drops to a 10-6 record overall and 4-2 in GNAC action. Emmanuel improves to 12-6 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Rams will host UMass Boston on Tuesday at 7pm in nonconference play. Emmanuel will host Simmons College in GNAC action on Tuesday at 7pm.
