Women's Basketball Top Simmons 56-47

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team improved to a 9-5 mark on the season with a 56-47 victory over Simmons College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Junior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) finished with a team-high 14 points in the contest as nine Rams found their way on the scoring sheet.

Freshman Georgia Bourikas (Hull, Mass.) scored 10 points off the bench for the Rams who picked up their second GNAC victory of the week to improve to a 4-1 record in conference play.

Suffolk struggled offensively in the first half shooting just 24-percent as a team from the field and fell behind 22-21 heading into halftime. After coming out of the break, Santini would nail back to back jumpers three minutes into the period giving Suffolk the 28-24 go ahead as they would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the contest.

Santini would connect on a three-pointer at the 11:33 mark in the period to make it a 37-29 lead, before Bourikas pushed the spread to double digits when she sunk a pair of free-throws on Suffolk's next possession. Bourikas would later give the Rams their biggest lead of the day at 12 points, 52-40 with 2:47 left on the clock when she connected on one of her three field goals on their afternoon.

Despite their shooting struggles, Suffolk managed to control the game on the glass outrebounding Simmons 53-33 in the contest. The Rams were able to convert 16 second chance points compared to the Sharks' two. Sophomore Chelsea Campellone (Fall River, Mass.) finished the day with a game-high nine rebounds, while junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) added eight along with seven points.

Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they travel to Bridgewater State University for a 7:00pm tip-off with the Bears.
