Women's Basketball Take Golden Bears Hoop Classic
Sophomore forward Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, CT) scored a game-high 16 points to lead Suffolk to a 56-52 victory over Hartwick in the championship game of the Golden Bears Hoop Classic Sunday (Nov. 20) in Springfield. She also had six rounds and two blocks in making the All-Tournament Team.
 
Junior guard Jacqueline Vienneau (Salem, NH) added 12 points and five assists while senior forward Mary Garon (Auburn, NH) contributed 11 points and seven rebounds in being named the Tournament MVP.
 
Suffolk (3-0) led 28-26 at halftime and held a five-point lead at 37-32 following a basket by junior guard Lindsey Rogers (Gloucester, MA) with 12:42 left in the game. Rogers finished with seven points and five rebounds coming off the bench.
 
Hartwick (1-2) responded with an 8-0 run to go ahead 40-37 on a basket by sophomore guard Maria Foglia (Rensselaer, NY) at the 9:24 mark. The Hawks led 43-41 when the Rams used a 9-0 run for a 50-43 advantage after Ruys made a basket with 2:31 remaining.
 
Vienneau was clutch down the stretch making the Rams final six points after Hartwick got within 50-46 with 1:22 left.
 
She made two free throws to give Suffolk a six-point margin (52-46) with 1:05 remaining. Sophomore guard Kate Purcell (Buffalo, NY) drained a three-pointer as Hartwick got within three (52-49) with just under a minute.
 
Vienneau then banked-in a running shot with the shot clock winding down to give the Rams a five-point lead with 28.0 seconds left.
 
Foglia answered with a long three-pointer to cut the margin to 54-52 with 12.6 seconds on the clock. Vienneau then sank two more free throws a second later to seal the win.

Foglia (who had 15 points) and sophomore forward Tracey Koch (Glenmont, NY) made the All-Tournament Team.
