Endicott Bests Softball in Nightcap in Six Innings, 9-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk softball fell to Endicott, 9-1, in six innings, in game two of a Commonwealth Coast Conference doubleheader at the Gulls Softball Complex. The Rams offense struggled, while the Gulls scored eight unanswered runs over the second through fourth frames.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first, Endicott put the Rams in an eight-run hole after multi-run second, third and fourth innings.  

With the mercy-rule turned on the Rams got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. With two outs, Lily Gustafson kept the inning going with a base hit to second and got into scoring position a wild pitch. Jolie Quintana brought Gustafon in with a single to center to eliminate the shutout. 

The Gulls put the game away in the home half of the sixth. A single by Chloe Shapleigh opened the inning. Elyse Saccoccio followed that base hit with a two-bagger to left center before Hadley Marcharnd brought Shapleigh in to seal the setback for Suffolk. 

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Cynthia Rucinski suffered the setback after giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 3.0 innings. 
  • Ella Turnbull came in in relief and let up three runs on five hits and one walk in 2.0 innings. 
  • Abigail Gilbert earned the decision after a one-run, five-hit, three-strikeout effort over 5.0 innings. 
  • Kristen Beebe an inning of scoreless, hitless relief with a pair of punchouts. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk's five hits were scattered across five batts in Quintana, Catherine CarignanBecky Zellin, Turnbull and Gustafson. 
  • Gustafson scored Suffolk's only run. 
  • Quintana brought in the Rams lone run. 

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk returns to East Boston Memorial Park tomorrow, Sunday, April 28 for a twinbill against Wentworth.
