KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Sluggish offense and fielding mishaps by Suffolk softball led to a 6-0 setback to Southern Maine Thursday morning at Fortune Road at The Spring Games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk had a chance to score in the second as it chucked the bags with a single from Ella Turnbull and walks by Lily Newhall and Becky Zellin. The Rams were stranded there though as Maddie Southers went down swinging.
Both sides went three-up, three-down in the third, before Southern Maine capitalized on Rams misplays in the fourth to grab a 2-0 edge.
The Huskies pushed the margin to five with three runs on one walk and three hits in the fifth and a two-out solo shot by Abby Miner in the sixth extend the deficit to six.
The Rams managed to poke a base hit in the sixth and seventh, respectively, but could not produce runs around them to remain off the scoreboard.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Lily Newhall twirled a no-hitter going into the fourth before letting up six runs, four earned, on eight hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. She had one strikeout to her credit.
- Ella Turnbull put together 1.1 innings of scoreless, hitless relief.
- Lexus McIntosh went the distance for the Huskies. She tossed a four-hit, two-walk, four-strikeout, complete-game shutout.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Turnbull went 2-for-3 at the plate to be responsible for half of the Rams' four hits.
- Ava Brandow and Zellin had one hit each.
- Newhall and Delaney Doidge drew one walk apiece.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk and Southern Maine last met in 2003.
- The Rams moved to 0-3 all-time against the Huskies.
- The shutout was the second in the all-time series between Suffolk and USM.
- Both games between Suffolk and USM have taken place on a neutral diamond.
- Turnbull matched a career-high two hits.
