Emerson Blanks Softball in Six Innings in Game 1

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk softball saw its home opener spoiled as Jessica Gomez twirled a gem for Emerson en route to a 9-0, six-inning setback for the Rams in the doubleheader opener at East Boston Memorial Park Friday.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Emerson 9
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-8) | Emerson (7-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED
After two scoreless innings, Emerson broke on the scoreboard. Three base hits, two walks, a Rams throwing error and a double steal attempt led to four Lions runs.

Suffolk stranded a run in the third and fourth, respectively, to remain in a four-run hole, that grew to five in the top of the fifth.

The Rams could not rally around Lily Gustafson's single through the left side in the home half of the inning to remain scoreless.

Emerson extended the edge even further in the six as it put up four runs to turn on the run-rule.

Gomez retired the first two blue-and-gold batters, before Savannah Scripter gave Suffolk some last hope with a single through the left side. Pinch hitter Becky Zellin placed a base hit of her own through the left side to put a pair of ducks in the pond for another pinch hitter, Diana Rucinski
