Roger Williams Ends Softball Season in CCC Tourney, 3-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – Suffolk softball saw its 2022 campaign come to a close Thursday afternoon as Roger Williams scored three unanswered runs over the third and fourth innings, respectively, to defeat the Rams, 3-1, in an elimination game in the CCC Tournament at the Softball Complex on the campus of Endicott.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Roger Williams 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (20-20) | Roger Williams (11-29)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk broke onto the board in the home half of the second. Rebecca Zellin and Jenny Jacob coupled back-to-back base hits together. Ira Boci aimed to moved the runners over on a bunt, which she laid down, however the Hawks second baseman muffed a throw to first, which allowed Boci to reach and load the bases. Rebecca Gonzlez had a productive ground out to score Zellin. No more damage was done though as Bianca Luciano grounded into a double play to limit the offensive output at one run.

Roger Williams responded with two runs on the next half inning and one more in the fourth to force the blue-and-gold into a 3-1 hole.

The Rams base runners were limited over the next few innings, none reaching scoring position, until Boci led off the seventh with a double to right center. That extra base knocked looked to spark energy for Suffolk with the end of the season looming. Ellie Fleming showed her composure in the circle and retired the side from there to cap off the contest.
