Emmanuel Dings Softball in Six in Game 2, 10-0

BOSTON – Emmanuel blasted two homers, while the Rams bats never got going, resulting in a 10-0, six-inning setback for Suffolk softball in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at Clemente Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Emmanuel 10
RECORDS: Suffolk (17-13) | Emmanuel (15-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A two-run bomb followed by a single RBI in the top of the first gave Emmanuel a lead it would never relinquish as Brennan Whittaker twirled a five-hit shutout to keep Suffolk off the scoreboard.

Up 3-0 thanks to the first inning, the Saints padded that margin in in the third on Jadynne Hill's two-out grand slam.

Base runners were kept at a minimum for the Rams, especially runners in scoring position. The only jersey in blue-and-gold to get past first base on the evening through the first five innings was Ava Brandow in the fourth. The freshman left fielder knocked a one-out double to left center, but was stranded there as Whittaker took down the next two blue-and-gold bats in order.

Emmanuel compiled a two-out rally in the sixth to stretch the margin to double digits. The Saints scored three, one on a bases loaded hit by pitch, followed by a pair on Kiana Hinson's single to left field.

Suffolk wanted to keep the game going as it chucked the bags in the bottom of the sixth. The blue-and-gold put all the ducks in the pond behind base the from Jolie QuintanaSavannah Scripter and Ally Cifaratta. With two outs and the bases full Lily Gustafson looked to put on the hero hat, however, Whittaker had other things in mind and fanned the Rams' rookie to lock up the shutout.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Julia Newcomb took the loss after giving up three runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts through 1.2 innings.
  • Ella Turnbull let up seven runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks with four punchouts in 4.1 frames.
  • Whittaker finished the night with a six-hit, one-walk, three-strikeout performance in 6.0 innings.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk's six hits were scattered across six different bats: Quintana, Brandow, Scripter, Cifaratta, Luciano and Rebecca Zellin.
  • Brandow's hit was good for extra bases, a double.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Luciano (four games) and Cifaratta (eight games) extended their hit streaks.
