Softball Slips Past Gordon in Game 2, 4-3

WENHAM, Mass. – Suffolk softball scored early and held off a Gordon comeback to grab a 4-3 nightcap win in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) double feature Sunday.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 4 | Gordon 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-4, 3-0 CCC) | Gordon (9-9-1, 0-3 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A Fighting Scots error with Rams on second and third in the first frame let the first run of the day come in. Caitlin Murphy scored for Suffolk. The center fielder led off with a base hit, used Ava Brandow's single through the left side to take second and stole third.

The host added to its advantage an inning later. Lily Gustafon worked a work and Jenny Jacob single to left center to put a pair of Rams on. Murphy factored into the scoring again, this time she brought a run in as the senior barreled a double to right center to plate Gustafson. Rebecca Gonzalez took Jacob's spot on the bag and one out later the pinch runner, as well as Murphy, coasted in on Brandow's base hit up the middle.

Suffolk stayed ahead 4-0 until the sixth when Lily Rivera knocked a three-run homer to cut the gap down to one.

Things stayed that way as Alexa White shutdown the Fighting Scots in the seventh.
