Softball Sees Nine Honored as NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athletes

NFCA RELEASE 

LOUSISVILLE, Ky. – For the second straight season Suffolk softball had nine student-athletes recognized for their work inside the class as the group garnered NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete status, the national organization announced. 

As a squad, the Rams combined for a 3.448 grade point average, which ranked as the 49th highest GPA in NCAA Division III over the 2018-19 year. 

The rankings recognized the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions with 8,161 student-athletes being acknowledged for achieving a 3.5 grade point average or higher a year ago. 

Suffolk's nine honorees hail from every class. The Rams are one of four GNAC teams to have players earn the distinction with Johnson & Wales earning the most accolades, 19. Simmons (11) and Albertus Magnus (7) were also represented. Overall, Division III student-athletes led the way with 1,928 honorees of the 8,161.   

Hannah DelCervo and Samantha Jacques picked up the distinction for the third time in their careers, while McKenzie McGrathConstance Phelan and Ashley Zulla took home the status for the second time. Grace Boehler, Karina Bua, Riley Mulligan, and Caitlin Murphy were all on the distinguished list for the first time.
