BOSTON – Suffolk softball renewed a rivalry with its Boston rival Emerson Tuesday afternoon and the Rams came up short, falling 5-4, to the Lions in non-conference action at Rotch Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Jaclyn Flint's one-run single in the top of the first, which scored Caitlin Murphy, wouldn't be enough as the Lions put up four runs in the bottom of the frame to gain a lop sided 4-1 advantage.
The Rams made up the ground in the second stanza, however, to level the playing field at 4-all. Back-to-back miscues from Emerson allowed McKenzie McGrath, who reached on a base hit, score, before a bases loaded single to left from Grace Boehler brought Riley Mulligan and Hailey Cockroft to make it a tied game. Mulligan reached on an error by the Lions left fielder and Cockroft made it on the bags on a base-on-balls.
Once again the hosts had an answer for the Rams in the home half of the inning. This time Emerson managed to only produce one run, thanks to a sac fly, but it proved to be the most substantial run of the day
Inning after inning the Lions limited the Rams to just one base runner and retired the side in the sixth to force Suffolk's hand in the seventh. With two dead, back-to-back singles to left field sparked hope in Suffolk, but Emerson successfully made the force out at second on Brooke Cloak's connection to end the inning and the game in its favor.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Hannah DelCervo suffered the set back to move to 3-5 on the year. In 5.0 innings of relief, she allowed one run on two hits and two walks with a pair of punchouts.
- Flint started in the circle for the blue-and-gold. The senior starter let up four runs, two earned, on four hits in 1.0 frame of work.
- Reliever Neely Eddleston earned the decision after tossing 5.2 scoreless innings. She held Suffolk to four hits and one walk and sat down four batters.
- Karagan Knowles started on the rubber for the Lions and gave up four runs, one earned, on three hits and three walks with two Ks.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Boehler's lone hit of the day resulted in a pair of RBI.
- Flint went 2-for-4 at the dish with one RBI.
- McGrath put together a 2-for-3 effort with one run scored.
- Murphy tallied one hit, one run, two walks and three stolen bases.
- Mulligan and Cockroft added one hit each.
NOTEWORTHY
- Murphy matched a career-high three stolen bases.
