BOSTON – Suffolk softball has a busy week ahead with five games over three days with action getting underway Tuesday, April 16 at Emerson. After the one-game outing, the Rams welcome Norwich the next day, Wednesday, April 17, and wrap up the chaotic stretch at Emmanuel Thursday, April 18.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk softball produced 18 hits, eight in the fifth frame alone, to come back and take down Saint Joseph (Conn.) in the nightcap of a GNAC double feature Sunday afternoon at the USJ Softball Field.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk's split with Saint Joseph (Conn.) put the Rams at 13-11 on the year and 3-1 against conference competition.  

Jaclyn Flint has been a force all over the diamond for the blue-and-gold as the senior has contributed at the plate, in the circle and in the middle infield. She is hitting .384, good for second on the squad, and leads the way in hits (28) and RBI (16). On the rubber, she has put together a 5.35 ERA with nine punchouts over 17.0 innings  

Caitlin Murphy has made the most of her rookie campaign with a .403 average at the dish that has produced 27 hits and eight RBI. Her quick speed on the bags has resulted in a squad-best 16 runs scored and nine stolen bases.  

Murphy's classmate Kennedy Reyes has proven herself as the Rams' ace twirler. The RHP boasts an ERA of 3.23 with 32 strikeouts over 52.0 innings. 

LIONS LOOK
Emerson was swept by Babson in its latest outing to dip to 13-16 on the season.  

Marisa DeFranco and Kallista Leonardos provide a one-two punch at the plate. DeFranco, who is batting .386, has team-high numbers in hits (35) and runs scored (29) with 10 RBI, while Leoanrdos has recorded 30 hits on a .330 connection rate to bring in 26 runs and score 25 herself. 

In the circle, Neely Eddleston anchors the Lions deep staff. The sophomore brings in a 3.85 ERA and 33 strikeouts over 80.0 innings. Karagan Knowles, meanwhile, has sat down an impressive 53 batters in 59.2 frames of action and put together an ERA of 5.63. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Emerson renew a rivalry and will meet for the first time since 2017. 
  • The Rams, Lions series is one of the oldest in Suffolk softball history, dating back to 1987. 
  • The blue-and-gold trails the all-time series, 31-22. 
  • Suffolk picked up the last meeting with the Lions, 8-0, which marked Jaclyn Davis' 101st victory as the Rams' head coach, making Davis the winningest Suffolk softball coach in program history.

CADETS CATCHUP
Norwich has fallen in its last pair of GNAC twin bills to Saint Joseph's (Maine) and Emmanuel to head into Wednesday's matchup 8-10 on the year and 2-4 against conference competition.  

Three everyday hitters have eclipsed the 20-hit mark and are batting over .400 anchored by Madison Miller's 25 off a slash line of .403/.493/.583. The senior catcher has 13 runs scored and eight RBI on her stat line. Dara Kelly and Katie Reid have each provided 23 hits. Reid, who is hitting an impressive .489, has plated a squad-best 18 runs and scored five herself, while Kelly, who is batting .418, has scored 17 times and brought in 13 runs. 

The Cadets cycle through three arms in the circle. Emily Oliver is the most experienced twirler with 69.2 innings of action under her belt in which she built a 3.52 ERA and has fanned 37 batters. Brittany Vandergroef is the other Norwich starter. She boasts an ERA of 5.54 with 29 punchouts. Adele Cousland rounds out the staff and holds a 7.60 ERA with three Ks.

SAINTS SAYINGS
Emmanuel swept Norwich over the weekend to improve to 15-11 on the season and remain unbeaten in league action (6-0).  

Grace Orcutt has been a crucial ingredient to the Saints success with a .402 average for 33 hits, 31 RBI and 14 runs. Renae Lacrois (.380, 30 H, 9 RBI, 18 R) and Olivia Burgos (.354, 28 H, 8 RBI, 31 R) are also consistent contributors at the dish.  

Megan Kieselback shoves in the circle for Emmanuel. The senior has worked 69.0 innings this season with a 2.43 ERA and 64 strikeouts. Mikaela Montemagni (47.0 IP, 4.77 ERA, 23 K) and Olivia Burgos (42.2 IP, 5.74 ERA, 30K) have also seen significant action on the rubber as well this season for the Saints.

  • The Rams have rattled off three straight wins over the Saints including a regular-season sweep and a crucial GNAC semifinal, extra-inning, walk-off win a year ago.
