Reyes Twirls Complete Game, Softball Shutouts Western New England, 2-0, to Split Series

EAST BOSTON – Kennedy Reyes had a day in the circle, scattering three hits and two walks over a complete-game effort to anchor the Rams to a 2-0 shutout Western New England in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader at East Boston Memorial Park Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk wasted no time to get on the board as Caitlin Murphy scored in the first to give the hosts an early edge. The rookie quickly made her away around the bags with a single, stolen base and a productive ground out before crossing the plate on Brooke Cloak's deep sac fly to center.  

Two innings later, Bianca Luciano mirrored Murphy's first frame output with her own. The freshman singled and stole second before Ashley Zulla barreled a double to right center to make it a 2-0 Suffolk score. 

Reyes took over from there, retiring 12 of the final 15 batters with just a single base runner in the fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively, to secure the shutout. 

PITCHERS PICTURE

• Reyes finished the day with a three-hit, two-walk, nine-punchout performance over 7.0 innings to move to 4-2 on the year. 
• Aimee Kistenr slipped to 5-2 on the season after giving up two runs on five hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

• Luciano led the way at the plate with a 2-for-2 effort. The freshman scored one run and swiped two bags. 
• Murphy supplied one hit, one run and one stolen base. 
• Zulla connected for one double to bring in one run. 
• Flint had one hit on the day. 
• Collected collected one RBI on one sac fly.  

NOTEWORTHY

• Suffolk defeated Western New England for the first time since 2006 and fifth time overall. 
• The shutout marks the first over WNE since a 1-0 decision in 2003. 
• Suffolk kept its first opponent off the scoreboard for the first time this season. 
• Reyes fanned a career-best nine hitters, in her second complete-game and first-ever shutout. 
• Under Jaclyn Davis Suffolk is 1-1 versus WNE.
• Luciano posted a career-high two stolen bases.
