WALTHAM, Mass. – Suffolk Softball hung with Brandeis in the first three innings until the Judges jumped ahead 10-5 en route to a 15-6, five-inning victory over the Rams in the nightcap of a non-conference doubleheader at Marcus Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Scoring started right from the get go as Suffolk put two runs on the board in the top of the first. Grace Boehler, who singled, used a passed ball to get into scoring position, and ran around the bags on Jaclyn Flint's single through the left side. Two batters later, Flint came in thanks to a base hit by Ashley Zulla to give the Rams a 2-0 edge.
Brandeis doubled Suffolk's scoring in the home half of the inning to flip the switch and put the Rams in a two-run hole, 4-2.
The Rams evened things out in the top of the third as Boehler barreled a single to right from to plate McKenzie McGrath and Samantha Jacques. McGrath led off the second stanza with a walk, while Jacques capitalized on an error by the Judges' twirler.
Things did not remain equal for long as a two-run jack by Jolie Fujita pushed the hosts ahead 6-4 in the bottom of the second.
Ashley Zulla responded with a dinger of her own. The junior's lead-off, solo shot sliced the deficit back to one, 6-5.
Brandeis did damage in the bottom of third with four runs on three hits and a pair of Suffolk errors that let the hosts build a 9-5 distance
Flint's one-RBI double in the top of the sixth let the Rams remain in the hunt, but it wouldn't be enough as the Judge exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to turn on the run-rule, 15-6.
Looking to escape the deficit, Jaclyn Davis brought in pinch hitters for a mix-up in the lineup. The fresh bats were no match for Brandeis' Sydney Goldman, who punched out the final two Rams batters to secure the five-frame win.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Hannah DelCervo earned the nod. The Suffolk starter dipped to 1-2 on the season after letting up nine earned runs on eight hits and six walks with one strikeout in 2.2 innings.
- Kennedy Reyes and Constance Phelan each came in for 0.2 frames of relief work. Reyes allowed five runs on four hits and one walk with one punchout, while Phelan kept the Judges scoreless with no hits or walks allowed.
- Amidori Anderson picked up the victory behind a two-earned run, six-hit, two-walk, two-strikeout, 3.0-inning effort.
- Goldman tossed 2.0 innings of relief with one-run, one-hit, one-walk and three strikeouts to to her credit.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Three different Rams provided two hits in Boehler, Flint and Zulla.
- Twos were scattered throughout Boehler's stat line with the sophomore left fielder producing two hits, two RBI and two runs with one base on balls.
- Flint's stat line was nearly identical to Boehler's, but was one run shy of the sophomore. The senior fnishe the outing with two hits, including one double, two RBI, one walk and one run scored.
- Zulla registered two hits, one homer, two RBI and scored one run.
- McGrath chipped in one hit and one run scored.
- Hailey Cockroft added one sac fly.
NOTEWORTHY
- Zulla knocked the first dinger for the Rams this season, the 13th of her career.
