Murphy Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Caitlin Murphy of the Suffolk softball team was tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week after helping the Rams sweep Roger Williams Sunday afternoon, the league office announced Monday afternoon. 

Murphy, a native of Abington, Massachusetts, put together a slash line of .800/.667/1.000 behind a 4-for-5 effort at the plate with three RBI and one run scored. The rookie played errorless ball in centerfield with four putouts to her credit. 

She followed up a 3-for-3 , two-RBI, one-run game one effort with a 1-for-2 showing, one RBI nightcap showing. 

Murphy is the first Ram recognized with a weekly honor this season. 

In her freshman campaign, Murphy's bat leads the way for Suffolk as the lead-off hitter is the lone batter with double digit hits (16) including three extra-base strikes – two doubles and one triple. She leads the way in RBI (7) and runs scored (8) as well as stolen bases (3). 

Murphy and Suffolk return to the diamond tomorrow, Tuesday, March 26 when they visit Brandeis for a doubleheader. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
