Softball Walks-Off Against Finlandia, 2-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Suffolk softball seventh-inning comeback was punctuated with a walk-off single RBI from Caitlin Murphy that sent the Rams past Finlandia, 2-1, Wednesday night at Fortune Road at THE Spring Games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Finlandia put Suffolk in a one-run hole in the top of the first and the Lions led the rest of the way until the Ram's thrilling comeback.

Kassandra Avila kept Suffolk's bats quiet until the bottom of the seventh, allowing just two hits over the first six frames. The Rams figured the twirler out when they needed too and Kelly Keane opened the do-or-die inning with a walk. Grace Boehler replaced Keane on the bags, advanced to second on a sac bunt by Karina Bua and scored the tying-run on McKenzie McGrath's double to left field. Two batters later, Murphy's heroics came into play as the freshman knocked a single to right to bring in the the game-winning run in McGrath home.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Kennedy Reyes put together her first complete-game performance. In 7.0 innings, she allowed one run on four hits and five walks and sat down seven hitters.

  • Avila went the distance for the Lions and put together a two-run, four-hit, four-walk, one-strikeout effort over 6.2 innings of action.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Suffolk's four hits were scattered around four bats in Murphy, Jaclyn Flint, Keane and McGrath.

  • McGrath and Murphy produced one RBI each.

  • Boehler and McGrath each both scored one run apiece.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk opened a series with Finlandia.

  • The Rams walked off for the first time in 2019.

  • Reyes pitched a career-high seven strikeouts.
