Davis Honored by East Boston Little League

BOSTON – On its 2018 season opening weekend, East Boston Girls Softball Little League recognized Suffolk softball head coach Jaclyn Davis at Festa Field for her organization of youth clinics for the next generation of softball players.

Davis teamed up with East Boston Girls Softball Board of Director and Suffolk alum Monica Cioffi '11 to offer free instructional sessions on a pair of Wednesday nights, which each lasted about an hour.  A total of 50 girls between the ages of 6-17 participated in the event with the 2018 Suffolk squad acting as the clinic coaches.

"The kids attending the clinic and the players who helped put it on had an absolute blast," Davis said. "We are excited to have the opportunity to give back to the community. It was a great experience overall, especially for our student-athletes to share their love for the game with East Boston Girls Softball."

In July 2015 Suffolk and East Boston entered a unique public-private partnership.

Under a 10-year agreement with Boston, Suffolk will invest to transform the city-owned East Boston Memorial Park to establish a permanent athletics facility. This comprehensive restoration has already resulted in updated facilities that have benefitted Boston's Parks and Recreation Department, East Boston High School, as well as the Suffolk student body.

Since entering the partnership, Suffolk's six outdoor varsity teams – baseball, men's and women's soccer and softball – have a permanent place to call home. Over that time, each team has advanced to the GNAC tournament in each of its respective seasons. In the fall, the men's soccer team put together the best league ledger (9-6) since joining the conference ranks in 1999, while the women's team took down conference powerhouse Lasell, 2-0, Sept. 27, 2018 in front of its home crowd for the first win over the Lasers in program history. In the spring, the baseball team has raised three consecutive GNAC Championship banners, while the softball squad hoisted the regular season conference crown twice and hosted the league tournament in Eastie on two occasions.
