Johnson & Wales Blanks Softball, 6-0, in GNAC Semis

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk softball team saw a bump in the road to GNAC glory as the top-seeded Rams took their first loss of the conference tournament, a 6-0 setback to second-seed Johnson & Wales Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0, Johnson & Wales 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (30-8) | Johnson & Wales (30-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED
With a full-count and the bags chucked, Jennifer Corona rocked a bomb over the right field fence to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

The score stood still from there will Corona handling the Rams in back-to-back innings. Suffolk's saw a great chance to get on the board in the home half of the third with a pair of runners in scoring position, but three quick outs kept it a four-run game in favor of JWU.

Suffolk did not crack the scoreboard as Corona continued to deal a game, limiting the Rams opportunities to secure the Wildcats spot in the championship.

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Taylor Holmes fell for the first time this season as the senior RHP allowed five runs, four earned, on six hits and five walks with five strikeouts.
  • Payton Sylvester came in as relief, letting up one run on three hits and sat down on hitter.
  • Corona continued her impressive senior season with a no-run, three-hit, two-walk, six-strikeout day.
