Softball Run Rules Albertus Magnus, 11-3, in Nightcap

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk softball team locked up the GNAC sweep over Albertus Magnus as the Rams burst past the Falcons, 11-3, in game two Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.  

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
Things started early and often for Suffolk as the hosts put up five runs in the first frame. The Rams added two more in the second stanza to stretch the margin to seven.  

Albertus erased the shutout in the third with a pair of runs, but Suffolk doubled that output in the home half of the inning to take an 11-2 advantage.  

After a scoreless fourth, the Falcons scored once in the fifth for the final 11-3 decision.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Taylor Holmes' three-run, six-hit, one-strikeout performance secured the senior RHP's ninth victory of the season. 
  • Kristen Cunning let up all 11 runs, all earned, on 12 hits with three walks and just one K for the Falcons.  

STATISCALLY SPEAKING

  • Jaclyn Flint paced Suffolk at the plate as the junior second baseman contributed two hits on a 2-for-3 showing with one double, five RBI and three runs. 
  • Delaney Sylvester did not miss at the dish with a 2-for-2 outing for two RBI and one run. 
  • Payton Sylvester completed the Rams' multi-hit trio as the freshman struck twice in her four at bats. The shortstop sent one ball over the fence for one RBI and scored twice. 
  • Sydney Littlefield, who had one hit, crossed home three times and stole one base. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk swept Albertus Magnus for the second straight season, fourth time in the Jaclyn Davis era and 14th-time overall.
  • The Rams defeated the Falcons by run-rule in five innings for the 10th time and first time since a 9-1, five-inning victory over Albertus April 19, 2014. 
  • For the fourth consecutive campaign and 10th-time overall, Suffolk won 16 conference contests. 
  • Holmes kept her perfect record together and improved to 9-0 on the rubber. 
  • Flint produced a personal-best five RBI.
