Softball Secures Sweep Over Regis with Offensive Onslaught in Game 2

EAST BOSTON – For the second time this season, the Suffolk softball team put up 20-plus runs in the nightcap of a GNAC doubleheader as the Rams cruised past Regis, 21-6, to cap off the conference series at East Boston Memorial Park Wednesday night.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 21, Regis 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-6, 7-1 GNAC) | Regis (4-12, 0-8 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Regis chucked the bags in the top of the first but could not turn its base runners into runs as Suffolk's defense backed up Payton Sylvester in the circle to keep zeros on the scoreboard. The Pride responded with a three-up, three-down inning to hold the blue-and-gold scoreless after one.

Things dramatically changed in the home half of the second as Suffolk totaled 11 runs punctuated by a three-RBI homer from Ashley Zulla.

The Rams kept the scoring frenzy going in the bottom of the third as eight runs came in to stretch the hosts advantage to 19-0. Ali Yamakaitis got the scoring going with an RBI single, while Grace Boehler's two-RBI double wrapped up the rally.

With Hannah DelCervo coming in to deal, the Pride took advantage of the fresh arm and scored six runs to make a small dent in the margin, 19-6.

Zulla responded for the Rams with a solo shot before Boehler brought in her third run of the night to regain a 21-6 lead for Suffolk.

DelCervo served up three strikeouts and let up just one base runner on a single in the fifth frame to secure the hefty 21-6 league triumph for the Rams.
