  • Softball Earns NFCA/Easton Top-10 Academic Team Honors, Nine Rams Honored as Scholar-Athletes

    The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named Suffolk softball an Easton Academic Top-10 Team as the Rams tied for 10th in Division III with a 3.596 team GPA for the 2017-18 academic year, the NFCA announced Wednesday afternoon. Individually, nine Rams garnered Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors.

    Taylor Holmes of the Suffolk softball team has made history as the first-ever Academic All-American in the program’s 34-year history as the senior earned a spot on the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Third-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.

    For the second time in Suffolk softball history and first since 2006, a Ram has earned Google Cloud College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District as senior Taylor Holmes garnered the distinction for the 2018 season, the organization released Thursday afternoon.

Suffolk and the Saints clash at 10 a.m., with the winner taking on the Wildcats in the title game at 12:30 p.m.

Suffolk awaits its opponent as fifth-seeded Albertus Magnus and fourth-seeded Saint Joseph’s (Maine) go head-to-head in the first tilt Thursday afternoon in Eastie with the winner taking on the blue-and-gold at 5:30 p.m.

     Payton Sylvester was near perfect inside the circle as she fired a no-hitter in the closer of Sunday’s GNAC softball doubleheader at Simmons, while her sister, Delaney Sylvester became the Rams’ all-time hit leader behind a two-RBI double, as Suffolk softball blanked the Sharks, 14-0, at Daly Field. 
  • Hectic Weekend Ahead for Softball

    Suffolk softball will play three consecutive doubleheaders over the weekend starting Friday (April 27) morning against Saint Joseph (Conn.) at 11 a.m. The Rams will then step out of GNAC play Saturday, April 28 in their Bark at the Park event versus Emerson before venturing to Simmons Sunday, April 29. Both weekend tilts are set for a 12 p.m. first pitch.

    As the sky began to open up and rain poured down on East Boston Memorial Park, Suffolk softball managed to grab a 6-4 lead over the University of Saint Joseph at the end of the fifth frame to be declared the winner of the closer of the GNAC doubleheader, which was called complete after five innings due to unsafe field conditions Friday afternoon.
