BOSTON – Coming off its GNAC Championship run, the Suffolk softball team saw six Rams recognized with All-GNAC accolades, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
A quartet of Suffolk players in Madison Eucalitto, Devlin Frost, Jill Pulek and Delaney Sylvester all took home first-team nods with Jaclyn Flint and Ashley Zulla earning a spot on the third team.
The six honors are the most under Jaclyn Davis' five-year tenure and tie the program's record set by the 2005 squad. The four first-team accolades also match the most in the history, also set by the 2005 team.
Sylvester highlights the selections earning her third straight honor and second spot on the first team as catcher. The Worcester, Massachusetts, product sports a .421 average (46-145) on the season, which includes 11 doubles and 10 jacks. The two-time GNAC Corvias Player of the Week started every game behind the plate for the Rams, bringing in 39 runs, scoring 26 and holds a near perfect fielding percentage of .992. Sylvester had a stand-up junior campaign, which saw her take home Louisville Slugger/NFCA DIII National Player of the Week May 3 thanks to a 7-0 week in which she hit .175 with eight runs scored, four walks, two doubles, three homers and 10 RBI. Her stellar offense, which featured a 1.998 OPS, transferred to her perfect defense with 31 putouts and one assist behind the dish.
For the second straight season, Pulek was a first-team selection as designated hitter. The powerful bat of the Cheshire, Connecticut, native put together a slash line of .384/.424/.715. The sophomore knocked 58 hits, 17 for doubles and 11 over the fence for 108 total bases and 44 RBI to go with 31 runs scored.
Frost found herself a spot on the first-team for the second time in her career. Her third honor, as the outfielder received a second-team selection in 2016, comes on a solid year at centerfield with a .335 average (53-for-158), 12 doubles, two triples and four homeruns. The junior from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, drove in 31 runs and scored a team-high 43.
Eucalitto takes home her first all-league recognition on the first-team at second base. The junior, who calls Old Saybrook, Connecticut, home, strung together a .307 average (23-for-75) with eight doubles, one triple and dinger, respectively, for 11 RBI and eight runs scored.
Flint and Zulla each garnered their first all-conference nods on the third team. Flint was recognized as a utility as she excelled in the infield, at the plate and in the circle for Suffolk. The sophomore from Medfield, Massachusetts, owns a 3.58 ERA in 45.0 innings pitched with a 5-0 record in 14 appearances. At the plate, Flint owns a .365 average (42-for-115) with nine doubles and six homers for 29 RBI and 27 runs scored.
Zulla had a stand out freshman campaign in the outfield. The rookie from Columbus, New Jersey, hit just above .400 at .402 with 53 hits including 13 doubles, one triple and four jacks, for 18 RBI and 30 runs scored.
Senior Morgan Parmeter represented the Rams on the conference's all-sportsmanship team, which was established to honor one player from each team in the league for outstanding dedication to sportsmanship and for their portrayal of good sportsmanship, fair play and positive attitude.
Sylvetser, Lindsay Pagano and Ali Yamakaitis were all recognized on the conference's all-tournament team for their stellar player that helped Suffolk forced its way into the GNAC Championship contest with a thrilling extra-inning do-or-die win over Albertus Magnus in the elimination game Sunday. The third-seeded Rams then surprised the tournament's top seed and host Johnson & Wales with a 3-2 triumph to force a winner's take all game. The Wildcats defeated the Rams, however, 15-5, to end Suffolk's season at 29-17 overall.
Since joining the GNAC in 1996, Suffolk has earned 71 All-GNAC honors, including five player of the year, one rookie of the year, one pitcher of the year, three coaches of the year, 33 first-team, 18 second-team and six third-team selections. The Rams have also received 14 all-tournament nods.
