Softball Blasts Anna Maria, 9-1 (5), in Game 1

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk softball team strung three consecutive jacks in the bottom of the fourth to lock up a 9-1, five-inning victory in the two-game series opener over Anna Maria Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 9, Anna Maria 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (21-14, 13-6 GNAC) | Anna Maria (4-24, 2-16 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Rams runners came in in the first and second, respectively, to give the hosts a 2-0 lead over the AMCATS. An Anna Maria error let Sydney Littlefield come in in the first frame, while a ground out RBI from Devlin Frost scored McKenzie McGrath, who reached on lead-off single, for the 2-0 early edge.

The score held from there before the monster bottom of the fourth put the game away. Morgan Parmeter started things off with a walk and advanced to second on a successful bunt from Jaclyn Flint. The runners were pushed over by a sac bunt from Sydney Littlefield to set up Frost's three RBI dinger over the right field fence. Jill Pulek and Delaney Sylvester followed with blasts of their own to stretch the advantage 7-0 Suffolk.

McGrath and Littlefield each collected an RBI apiece thanks to a single and a walk, respectively, for the 9-0 margin after four innings.

Anna Maria brought one run in the fifth, but the Rams' defense held the AMCATS to just one to secure the 9-1 victory, Suffolk's eighth straight.
