Softball Shutouts Lasell in Nightcap 5-0; Sweeps Lasers

BOSTON – The Suffolk softball team secured a GNAC series sweep with a 5-0 decision over Lasell in the closer Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
A quiet first was followed by two-runs in the second and third, respectively by the Rams to put the hosts in front 4-0. With two down in the second, Lindsay Pagano drew a walk to keep the inning alive. An error by the Lasers advanced the runner to third and Karina Miranda brought the two home with a single up the middle. 

An inning later, Delaney Sylvester marked her second straight game with a jack as the junior catcher went yard and scored Jill Pulek, who doubled down the left line in the process, to push Suffolk's lead to 4-0. 

Suffolk stretched things even further in the bottom of the sixth. Evelyn Marquis led off with a single up and the middle and advanced to second a sac bunt from Pagano. Morgan Parmeter's single to short placed Marquis in prime scoring position on third. As Parmeter went to snag second, the runner had the Lasers attention allowing Marquis to come in to make it a 5-0 Rams game. 

The Rams retired the side to keep the Lasers off the scoreboard and lock up the 5-0 win. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Miranda's 2-for-4, two-RBI effort paced Suffolk.
  • Marquis put together a 2-for-3 day with one run scored.
  • Sylvester contributed one hit, two RBI and one run scored.
  • Pulek and Parmeter each registered one hit and one run scored. 

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Jaclyn Flint picked up the win in the circle with a complete-game, two-hit, four-strikeout shutout effort.
  • Nichole Arcese tossed a complete-game for the Lasers with the, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits with three strikeouts. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Sylvester recorded her second straight game with a homerun to bring her career total to 17 to sit in a tie with Pulek for second all-time.   
  • Suffolk swept Lasell for the third consecutive season and extended its win streak versus the Lasers to six to take a 13-9 lead in the series.
  • Flint threw the first complete-game shutout of her collegiate career.
