EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk softball team took down Simmons, 9-3 in game one and came from behind with a powerful 8-run sixth inning to win the night cap 9-2, securing the sweep of the Sharks at East Boston Memorial Park Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
After Simmons brought two runs off to get the game going, Suffolk's offense also started from the get go with four runs coming home in the first frame. One day removed from knocking her first ball over the fence in her collegiate career, Jaclyn Flint followed that performance with solo shot to left field to lead off the Rams. Ashely Zulla and Devlin Frost kept the hits coming with the outfielders each reaching on singles and two batters later Delaney Sylvester put a single of her own into play to plate the two runners. Sylvester came in on Lindsay Pagano's double to right center to turn the tides and make it a 4-2 Suffolk contest.

The Sharks would trim the margin to one with a one-run homer in the fourth, but the Rams strung together its second four-running inning of the contest in the fifth to stretch the distance to 8-3. Morgan Parmeter started the run rally with an RBI single that was followed by a deep double to right from Jaclyn Flint that scored pinch runner Samantha Jacques, and pinch hitter Evelyn Marquis. Zulla's sac fly to left gained the five-run edge for the blue-and-gold.
Suffolk added an insurance run in the sixth thanks to an RBI single from Madison Eucalitto that brought in Devlin Frost, who led off the inning with a double to left field. The Rams locked up the 9-3 win with three ground outs to open the two-game series.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Flint paved the path at that plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.
- Eucalitto also put together a 3-for-4 effort with one RBI.
- Zulla was perfect at the dish, with a 2-for-2, one-RBI, one-run effort.
- Frost joined Flint, Eucalitto and Zulla with a multi-hit day of her own, going 2-for-4 at bat to go along with two runs scored.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Ali Yamakaitis went the distance to earn the win. The junior hurler let up three runs on six hits and two walks with five Ks.
- Simmons starter Alex Soqui suffered the setback letting up eight runs, seven earned, on 13 hits and sat down two hitters.
- Bridget Garach came on in relief. In 1.2 frames, she allowed one run on two hits and struck out a pair of batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
After 2.5 scoreless frames, Suffolk got on the scoreboard first in the third. With two down, Flint brought in Frost, who led off the inning with a walk, with a single to short to break open the scoring.
Taylor Holmes took a no-hitter into the fifth when the Sharks started to heat up. Sam Curran's walk fired up Simmons' bats as Tori Gomes followed suit with a single to left to place Curran, who sniped second in Gomes' at bat, in scoring position. Brianna Rastello joined the hitting party and put a single of her own into play to tie the ball game. Three batters later with the bases loaded a Rams error let the Sharks grab their first lead of game 2, 2-1.
Suffolk stranded on in the home half of the fifth and took care of business in the sixth before its rally came. A Eucalitto walk was followed by a single to left field from Pagano. The runners moved to third and second, respectively, thanks to a sac fly from pinch hitter Dylan Parsons, who set up Zulla's heroic single up the middle that locked the game at 2-all. Frost put the Rams in front once again and for the final time with her second double of the day.
From there, the Rams poured on the run with Pulek doubling to left for an RBI before coming in on an error followed by an RBI single from Pagano and another Simmons' error to make it a 9-2 Suffolk ball game.
The Sharks opened the seventh with a bases-on-balls, but could not find momentum off that as Suffolk's defense locked up the win and sweep with a fly out and back-to-back pop ups.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Frost, Flint and Pagano all had days at the dish. Frost's lone RBI was the most important, putting Suffolk in front for good in the sixth, with the centerfielder going 2-for-3 and scoring a pair of runs.
- Flint also went 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run, while Pagano's 2-for-2 effort featured one RBI.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Holmes threw a two-run (one earned), five-hit, eight-strikeout, three-walk, complete-game effort for the blue-and-gold inside the circle
- Gomes gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits, six walks in 5.2 innings with two strikeouts.
- Garach allowed three runs on four hits and sat down one hitter in 0.1 of relief work.
NOTEWORTHY
- A day after hitting her first collegiate home run, Flint led off the contest with a solo shot to left field. The sophomore is the second Ram this second to knock bombs in back-to-back games as Jill Pulek went yard in three straight games March 25-30.
- Suffolk swept Simmons for the second straight season and second time under Jaclyn Davis
- The Rams ran their win streak against the Sharks to four straight to hold a 27-20 lead all-time versus Simmons.
- Suffolk is now on a season-high four-game win streak.
