Holmes Tabbed GNAC Corvias Pitcher of the Week

BOSTON – Taylor Holmes of the Suffolk softball team has been recognized for her efforts inside the circle last week as the junior was named GNAC Corvias Pitcher of the week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Holmes shoved a complete-game, eight-hit, four-walk, nine-strikeout 8-0 shutout over Emerson to lift the Rams' to victory and head coach Jaclyn Davis' to her 101st win on Suffolk's bench, making her the winningest Suffolk softball head coach in the program's 33-year history. The nine strikeouts for Holmes marked a career-best, while the complete-game effort is the second of her collegiate career and first-ever 7.0 inning complete-contest. The rightie, who calls Ashford, Connecticut home, recorded her second shutout of her career.

Holmes is the second twirler in blue-and-gold to take home the feat this season as Ali Yamakaitis earned the nod March 13. The two are the first pitchers under Davis to be recognized as the best hurler over a seven day stretch and in Suffolk's history through 2009 according to the league's record books, which date back to the beginning of the 2009 season.

Suffolk is set to open GNAC action Thursday, April 6 when it welcomes Norwich to East Boston Memorial Park for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
