TUCSON – The Suffolk softball team ended its Spring Break trip on a high note as the Rams outlasted Dickinson, 2-1, in eight innings Thursday afternoon to wrap up action at the Tucson Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Dickinson got on the board in the first inning and maintained that lead heading into the final inning. Suffolk kept things alive with a two-out RBI single from Evelyn Marquis, which brought in Morgan Parmeter, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
The Rams defense retired the Devils in order in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra session. With Devlin Frost placed on second, an error by Dickinson's pitcher gave Jill Pulek first and moved Frost to third. Two batters later, another Devils mistake, this time by the second baseman, let Frost cross home, plating the go-ahead run.
Suffolk's defense took care of business in the bottom of the eighth with three straight outs to lock up the 2-1 win in the Rams favor.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- The Rams had an eight-hit day with Pulek and McKenzie McGrath producing two piece. The former went 2-for-3 at the plate with the latter stringing together a 2-for-4 performance at bat.
- Marquis, Frost, Pagano and Taylor Holmes (1-1) all tallied one hit on the day.
- Frost and Parmeter scored the runs for Suffolk with Marquis and Pagano tallying one RBI apiece.
PITCHERS PICTURE
- Ali Yamakaitis picked up the win in the circle with a complete-game, one-run, six-hit, four-strikeout day.
- Madison Milaszewski suffered the setback, going the full 8.0 innings, letting up two runs, one earned, on eight hits with eight strikeouts.
NOTEABLE
- Suffolk played its first extra-inning game of the season and its first since capturing a 2-1, eight-inning triumph over Simmons April 20, 2016.
