Softball Extends Winning Streak To Eight Games

The Suffolk University Softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at Salem State University to extend their winning streak to eight games. Suffolk combined for 34 hits in the two games as they took game one 14-5 before completing the sweep with a 9-6 victory in game two.

Sophomore Lindsay Pagano (Wyckoff, N.J.) was a combined 6-for-7 on the afternoon. Freshman Delaney Sylvester (Worcester, Mass.) hit her second home run of the year in game two as she was 4-for-7 with three RBI and four runs scored combined.

Suffolk took game one 14-5 in large part to a nine run fourth inning. Six players recorded multiple hit efforts in the opener.

Junior Meredith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. The top three hitters in the Suffolk lineup scored seven times. Sophomore Kristen Young (Windsor, Conn.) and freshman Madison Eucalitto (Old Saybrook, Conn.) were both 2-for-3 with two runs scored each and an RBI apiece.

Senior Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) earned the victory on the mound as she went five innings scattering nine hits and allowing one earned run while punching out four hitters. Chasse also helped her own cause at the plate as she was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Freshman Allison Loftus (Oak Park, Ill.) was 2-for-4 with three RBI in game two, a 9-6 Suffolk victory.

Freshman Ali Yamakaitis (Avenel, N.J.) struck out seven hitters over five innings of work to earn the win on the mound. Freshman Kathleen Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) threw the final two innings striking out four to earn the save.

Pagano was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in the nightcap.

The victories move Suffolk to a 15-5 overall record on the year. They'll be back in action on Wednesday when they host Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader beginning at 3:00pm.
