The Suffolk University Softball team opened their 2015 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a doubleheader sweep over the Mount Ida Mustangs on Friday afternoon.
Suffolk took game one with a 9-1 victory in five innings before taking game two by an 8-3 score.
Suffolk put together a 13-hit attack in the opener as sophomore Kristen Young (Windsor, Conn.) was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI to lead the offense. Five players recorded a multi-hit effort in the win.
After a throwing error plated the first run of the inning, Young singled back up the middle to score freshman Allison Loftus (Oak Park, Ill.). A single by junior Meredith Ball (Nahant, Mass.) would bring home another run before seniors Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) and Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) hit consecutive RBI base hits to make it a 6-1 game after two innings.
The Rams would score three more times in the fifth inning as Ball singled through the left side for her second RBI single of the game. Freshman Madison Eucalitto (Old Saybrook, Conn.) would then drive in a pair as she doubled home two more runs to end the game at 9-1.
Chasse earned the victory on the mound as she allowed just two hits in the five innings without allowing an earned run.
Suffolk opened game two scoring three times in the bottom half of the first.
Back to back singles by Rosa and freshman Delaney Sylvester (Worcester, Mass.) would make it a 2-0 game before freshman Elissa Mogauro (Pelham, N.H.) rounded out the inning with an RBI groundout.
Rosa would add another RBI in the third with a base hit. She finished game two going 3-for-3 with a pair of runs driven in and a run scored.
Sylvester would finish the game with three RBI as she was 1-for-2 at the plate. She drove in runs in the third and later in the fifth with a sacrifice fly.
Freshman Kathleen Slavin (Rocky Hill, Conn.) earned the win going the first five on the mound before giving way to fellow classmate Ali Yamakaitis (Avenel, N.J.) who pitched the final two.
Freshman Devlin Frost (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored three times as she drew a pair of walks.
Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Rivier University for a 3:30pm start.
