The Suffolk University Softball team hosted the Emerson College Lions in a nonconference doubleheader on Friday night. The Rams fell 15-5 in game one and came up just in short in game two 16-14.
Game One
Suffolk opened the scoring early when they plated three runs in their first at bat. Junior Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) got the inning going with a single coming around to score on a single from freshman Anna Grace Maggs (Schenectady, N.Y.). Freshman Lindsay Pagano (Wyckoff, N.J.) would single to bring in two RBI to round out the inning with a 3-0 lead.
The Lions would come out strong at the top of the second when freshman Monique Medina (Orange, Calif.) would hit a double then be brought home by sophomore Courtney Fee (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) who advanced to second off a Suffolk error. Fee would round out the inning 3-2 just behind the Rams.
The Lions would score eight runs in the top of the third making the score 10-3. The Rams would not recover from this deficit and would drop the game 15-5 in five innings.
Maggs and Pagano would finish the game with two RBI and McAndrews would have two runs for the Rams.
Shannon Torosian (Stoneham, Mass.) and Tatiana Motevalli-Oliner (Randallstown, Md.) would knock in home runs for the Lions.
Game Two
Junior Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) started off the scoring of the second game when she crossed home plate after an Emerson error. Emerson would answer with a homerun from sophomore Alexandra Wysota (Manhasset, N.Y.) with two RBI to put the Lions up 2-1 at the top of the second.
Torosian and freshman Jenna Giannelli (Hudson, N.H.) would both hit homers at the top of the third. Torosian would have three RBI to put the Lions up 6-1. Chasse and Rosa would score for the Rams to try and close the gap to make it a 6-3 game.
At the bottom of the fifth the Rams were down 13-7. The Suffolk offense would start to heat up when McAndrews would hit a grand slam and cut the lead by one after Pagano crossed home plate to put the score to 13-12. The Suffolk defense would then force Emerson to a three and out at the top of the sixth.
Chasse and freshman Kristen Young (Windsor, Conn.) would each get a run for the Rams to put them up 14-13 going into the seventh inning. The Rams were unable to hold onto the lead and would drop the second game 14-16.
McAndrews ended the night with a game high six RBI. Pagano would get the Rams' only stolen base on the night and have three RBI.
Torosian would have a team high four RBI for Emerson. Sophomore Amanda Horton (Riverside, R.I.) would have the Lions' lone stolen base and have a team high of four runs.
This loss drops the Rams to 2-8 overall while the Lions improve to 9-4.
Suffolk is back in nonconference action on Sunday hosting Johnson State at 12:30pm and 2:30pm. Emerson will host Johnson and Wales in a doubleheader on Sunday at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
