The Suffolk University Softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader over the Albertus Magnus College Falcons on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) was 7-for-9 on the day scoring four times in the two games combined, while junior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) picked up five hits for the sweep.
Game One
Nicole Rosa was a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs scored and three doubles in the opener to lift Suffolk to an 11-5 victory.
Suffolk got a run in the first when McAndrews plated sophomore Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) on a fielder's choice. Chasse led the game off with one of her three hits in the opener.
Chasse would knock in a run in the second inning with a single, before a bases loaded walk to McAndrews made it a 3-1 Rams' edge. Freshman Julia Ludvigsen (Dedham, Mass.) added a single later in the inning to stake Suffolk to the three run edge.
Rosa would help Suffolk tack on two more runs in the fourth inning as she doubled home Chasse before coming around to score later in the inning on an error.
Suffolk added some insurance in the sixth inning as they scored four more times. Rosa would start the inning off with her second consecutive double before a triple by Erin McAndrews would knock her in. A wild pitch would send McAndrews home for another Suffolk run and freshman Paige Stanley (Fair Haven, N.J.) drove in a pair of runs with a double.
The Rams put out 17 hits in game one, including five extra base hits. Rosa had three doubles in the contest. All nine players recorded at least one hit in the game, while both Chasse and Rosa scored three times.
Game Two
Julia Ludvigsen hit a go-ahead single with one out in the top of the seventh inning as Suffolk to the nightcap 2-1.
Nicole Rosa once again got things started offensively for Suffolk as she singled with one out in the inning. After a base hit by McAndrews put Rosa up in scoring position, Ludvigsen delivered the game winning hit for the Rams.
Ludvigsen also earned the win on the mound for Suffolk in relief as she escaped a jam in the sixth inning to set the table for the seventh.
Sarah Chasse earned the save pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
The 2-3-4 part of the Suffolk lineup accounted for all of their hits in game two and Rosa and Ludvigsen each had a pair, while McAndrews had three hits.
Sophomore Alicia Gonnella (Bridgewater, N.J.) pitched 5 2/3 innings for Suffolk striking out five in the no-decision.
The Rams will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they travel to St. Joseph's College for a GNAC doubleheader with the Monks beginning at 3:30pm.
