McAndrews Has Monster Day As Softball Sweeps Anna Maria

The Suffolk University Softball team swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double header over Anna Maria College on Friday afternoon. Junior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) hit a pair of home runs in game two as she drove in seven runs to lead the Rams to an 11-3 victory in game two after a 15-hit attack paced a 9-1 win in the opener.

Game One

Five players had multiple hits in game one as Suffolk cruised to a 9-1 victory highlighted by a 4-for-4 game by freshman Julia Ludvigsen (Dedham, Mass.).

Suffolk jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning as Ludvigsen and sophomore Alicia Gonnella (Bridgewater, N.J.) hit back to back run scoring doubles for the early edge.

Ludvigsen would strike again in the fifth as she doubled to drive in McAndrews who started the inning off with a single. Ludvigsen would come around to score on the play on an overthrow.

The Rams would strike for four more runs in the home half of the sixth inning highlighted by a two-run double by Gonnella.

Gonnella finished game one 3-for-4 with three RBI, while McAndrews and sophomores Sarah Chasse (Salem, Mass.) and Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) each collected a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs in the contest.

Chasse was victorious on the mound for Suffolk in the opener picking up her second win of the season as she just limited the AMCATS to just one hit while striking out three.

Game Two

Erin McAndrews opened up the scoring in game two with an RBI double in the first inning to plate Sarah Chasse who drew a base on balls to start the game, before freshman Paige Stanley (Fair Haven, N.J.) drove her in with a double as part of a three run Suffolk inning.

Anna Maria would answer in the top of the third inning as freshman Samantha Miller (Dudley, Mass.) drove in a pair of runs with a single to cut the Suffolk lead to 3-2.

The Rams would answer in the bottom half of the inning as Nicole Rosa led the inning off with triple before coming around to score with McAndrews' fourth RBI of the day coming by way of a groundout.

McAndrews would cap off her big day in her following two at-bats as she connected on his first home of the season on a towering drive to left field to score three more runs. She connected again in the sixth inning with a two run blast.

Anna Maria collected six hits in game two as Miller picked up their lone RBI's of the day with her single in the third. Sophomore Nicole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.), senior Tabitha Ruggieri (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) all scored runs in the nightcap for the AMCATS.

Rosa was 2-for-3 in game two scoring three times in the game.

Ludvigsen and Gonnella each worked three innings on the mound for Suffolk as they combined to strikeout eight Anna Maria hitters.

Anna Maria will take on Simmons College on Saturday in a GNAC doubleheader.

Suffolk will travel to Emerson College on Saturday before finishing off their weekend by hosting Simmons College on Sunday at 12:00pm as part of Coaches Vs. Cancer.
