Softball Concludes Spring Trip With 8-6 Win

The Suffolk University Softball team concluded their annual spring trip with an 8-6 victory over Haverford College on Friday afternoon as part of the NTC Invitational in Clermont, Florida.

Junior Erin McAndrews (Marblehead, Mass.) and freshman Paige Stanley (Fair Haven, N.J.)combined for six RBI on the day as the Rams head back north to Boston with a 1-7 record to start the season.

Suffolk collected 12 hits in the victory as sophomore Nicole Rosa (Wallingford, Conn.) was a perfect 3-for-3 on the day scoring three times.

Trailing 2-0 in the first, sophomore Sarah Casse (Salem, Mass.) would lead things off in the home half of the first with a single. Rosa then singled before McAndrews plated a pair of runs with her first hit of the day as the first three Suffolk hitters all reached base safely.

Suffolk would even the game 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning as Rosa started things with a double. McAndrews would follow up with a walk before Stanley knocked in the pair with a double of her own.

The Rams would take the lead for good in the bottom half of the sixth inning as they scored four runs as McAndrews drove in two more with a double to give Suffolk a 6-5 lead. Rosa would come around later inning to score on a passed ball before freshman Julia Ludvigsen (Dedham, Mass.) capped the inning off with an RBI groundout.

Stanley picked up the win on the mound for the Rams as she pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief allowing two unearned runs while striking out three.

Suffolk will be back in action on Friday afternoon as they open up their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) schedule with a double header at Albertus Magnus College beginning at 5:00pm.
