Men’s Cross Country Takes Program-Best Eighth at NCAA East Regionals

HOPKINTON, N.H. – Men's cross country made history Saturday as it raced to a Ram's record eighth-place finish at the 2023 NCAA Division III East Regional Championships hosted by Suffolk at Hopkinton Fair Grounds.

The blue-and-gold combined for 227 points, just five points behind seventh-place finisher Plymouth State, to land eighth in the 34-team field. Suffolk was the best Commonwealth Coast Conference squad on the 8k course in the Granite State, topping Gordon (13th), Endicott (16th), Wentworth (17th), UNE (19th), Nichols (21st) and Curry (34th).

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Senior Tim Barry anchored Suffolk's squad as the came through the finisher's chute in 25:05.42 to lock up 13th in the field of 229.
  • Junior Thomas Novy crossed the tape in 25:46.38 to place 32nd.
  • Sophomore Hayden Green slid into 47th with a time of 26:19.21.
  • Senior Luke Sikora put together a 26;36.16, good for 61st.
  • Senior Jacob Dubin (26:45.86) and freshman Cam Fredette (26:46.75) finished one after another in 74th and 75th, respectively.

ALL-NEW ENGLAND

  • Barry coasted to All-New England status via the DIII New England Association. The accolade is awarded to the top-20 finishers at the regional race.
  • Thanks to their top-35 finishes, both Barry and Novy earned USTFCCCA All-East Region, given to the top-35 finishers at every regional across the country.

RAMS RECORDS

  • Every Suffolk student-athlete to compete Saturday clocked a new personal 8k best.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk's eighth-place team performance is a NCAA DIII regional program-record.
  • Barry compiled the best showing of any CCC student-athlete on the course.
  • Barry is the second-ever Ram to earn All-New England by the DIII New England Association, first since Matyas Csiki-Fejer did so in 2021.
  • Barry and Novy both claimed USTFCCCA All-East Region nods for the first time in their collegiate careers. They are the first student-athletes to achieve the feat since Csiki-Fejer collected the award in 2021.
  • Suffolk's two USTFCCCA All-East region honorees are a program record for the Rams.
